THE
LEON RUSCHALL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
1)
General Information
1.1 The Fernie District Teachers' Association (FDTA) has established an annual scholarship (The Leon Ruschall Memorial Scholarship) of seven hundred and fifty dollars ($750.00) for a post-secondary student entering an Education Faculty.
1.2
All monies shall be held in a trust fund and shall be administered by the
FDTA.

Eligibility
The
scholarship may be awarded only to a student who:
2.1
graduated from Fernie, Sparwood, or Elkford secondary schools;
2.2
is presently attending a recognized post-secondary institution, and has
been accepted into the teacher education program.
3)
Basis of Award
Awards
shall be made on the basis of the requirements given below.
3.1 Applicants will supply proof of acceptance from the post-secondary school’s education faculty.
3.2 Applicants will supply a copy of their transcript of marks from the post-secondary school on which their admission into the Education Faculty was based.
3.3 The successful applicant will have the top average percentage.
3.4 In The event there are no applicants who are entering their first year of teacher training, applicants who are entering the second year to an Education Faculty will be considered.
3.5 In the event of a tie, awarding of the scholarship will be determined by the FDTA President and two other executive members.
3.6 Candidates must make application prior to June 15, using an application form available from the FDTA Office (Telephone: 250-423-3333) or the FDTA website www.elkvalley.net/fdta.

Procedures for Award
4.1
The winner of the award shall receive a letter from the President of the
FDTA indicating that he/she has won the award.
4.2
Payment of the award shall be paid directly to the post-secondary
institution to be credited directly toward the student’s tuition.
4.5
The FDTA Scholarship Committee reserves the right to refuse/withdraw
payment of the scholarship.
