UNDER CONSTRUCTION - BUT THERE IS A BUNCH OF STUFF HERE.

Altitude

The altitude of Elkford is 1300 meters (4265 ft) above sea level. We are pretty sure that it is the highest town in Canada.

Forestry

Elkford is one of the best forestry industries in the world. We have many trees around Elkford. We have a few clear-cuts all around ELkford. There are lots of logging trucks coming and leaving Elkford. This is where most of your paper comes from. Horse loging used to be popular around Elkford. Now we use lots of the heavy logging machinery. Most of the biking, hiking and motor biking trails were made from the logging roads.

The years 1978 and 1979 were the best years for producing paper and paperboard.

Mining

There are three mines near Elkford. They are Fording River Operations, Greenhills and Line Creek. These are the main reasons Elkford is here. The mines in send coal all over the world and even to Japan. The coal is transported by train and then it is transpoted by cargo ships around the world. The mines have milions of tons of coal. The mines are producing billions of dollars in revenue for the province. In the future the might be a diamond mine forming around Elkford.

Wildcat Charlie

Mr. Charlie Weigert was a truly an old pioneer. He is also known as (Dutch Charlie), and Wildcat Charlie. He owned a lot of 2000 K.D. It is known as the sulpher springs ranch. He was injured in the U.S.A. before coming to Canada , and has a stiff knee as a result of the fight. He was cut by a knife during the fight, but his opponent lost his life. Lot 2000 was the only freehold in the Elk Valley that was known of. When ever someone stopped in at his cabin he always had a pot roast for lunch. His buffalo guns hung on the wall in plain view when you entered his cabin. Every one who stopped in said that his wild west stories were very interesting.
