Fundraising is an activity that requires a good deal of time for any organization. To raise money for Outdoor Education the situation has been the same. After running several activities, that each brought in small amounts of money, and were labour intensive, an organization was found that gave a good return for output.
A fundraising company that has groups of people sell for them ,at specific times of year, was found that gave a 40-45% return on each dollar earned.This past year the organization was not located. There representative could not be found and the company phone number could not be located. This was found to be rather odd. In previous years the class had raised several thousand dollars with them.
Fortunately a lot of money was not required this year. Food for the trip and money to pay for the short bus ride (30 kms each way) are the only items which are required. Each person requires just under $6.00 per day to feed. The equipment has been purchased previously and each person need only bring their personal gear.
This year we are planning to raffle a side of beef. We could sell the tickets for $2.00 apiece or 3 for $5.00. Another option would be to sell them for $10.00 apiece and sell only 150 or 200 tickets.
